Profile and Mission

The Natural History Museum of the University of Zurich (NMZ) is a collection-based university museum within the Faculty of Science. It preserves, researches and communicates natural science collections and links them to current research. The NMZ brings nature, science and society into dialogue, strengthens trust in science through evidence-based and independent communication, and makes scientific working methods transparent. As an inclusive place of learning and encounter, the museum creates meaningful experiences for a broad, cross-generational audience and contributes to social well-being. With its nationally recognised programmes and exhibitions, the NMZ also contributes to Zurich's cultural appeal and positions the University of Zurich as a leading institution in the communication of natural sciences.
